Blacktown & Greater Western Sydney

Together, we turn dementia awareness into action.

We support people living with dementia, their carers and their families. We bring research, lived experience and community together, so no one has to face dementia alone.

Why this matters

Dementia touches every community

Our core message

Dementia Friends Unite (DFU)

Culturally and linguistically diverse families face real barriers to dementia care. Stigma, fear, language and misconceptions can create a silence that leaves families without support.

Dementia Friends Unite is a culturally safe, community-based education program working to change that. It was co-designed with dementia alliances and care providers, and delivers dementia education in eight commonly spoken languages.

A Priority Population

Australia's National Dementia Action Plan names CALD communities as a priority. Yet they remain underrepresented in research, service design and care. We exist to help close that gap.

The science

Knowledge brings hope and direction

Until there is a cure, research and lived experience give our community guidance. We translate what scientists learn about the brain into practical understanding for everyday life.

Understanding the brain

Plain-language explanations of how dementia affects memory, thinking and behaviour, so families know what to expect.

Brain health & risk reduction

Simple, practical steps that support a healthier brain at every age. Small changes can make a real difference.

Research into action

We connect clinicians, researchers and people with lived experience, and share what works with our community.

Our main focus

Ambiguous loss

Sometimes a loved one is still here, yet so much has changed. That in-between grief has a name: ambiguous loss. Naming it can be the first step toward coping.

We help carers and families understand these feelings, find words for them, and feel less alone in carrying them.

"Looking back, moving forward."

Grief and love can live side by side. Our gatherings make space for both.
